This is an ambitious book covering the history of England from pre-history to the end of WWII.
This condenses down all aspects of the time covered making it too general and vague. Major parts of English history are skipped entirely.
The Celtic Britons are barely mentioned. Romanization is mentioned and the devastation of the Saxon and Angle invasions. Time is spent on Alfred the Great and the Norman conquest, but it skips from there to the Magna Charta, then on to the Tudors. It omits the establishment of the office of Prime Minister and goes on to Victoria. This completely dismisses the American Revolution and Napoleon.
Captivating History tries to make history into a simple story and usually succeeds on single issues, but this is too broad of a time period to be simplified in this manner.
